MERCHANTS TRAIL
In the 18th century Zagori gained a large population of merchants with links to Constantinople and Romania. These merchants became the ruling class of the area and contributed to the prosperity Zagori enjoyed during the period of Turkish rule. Their impressive stone mansions still exist today, some in a better state of repair than others! You will still walk on the stone paved paths which they used to conduct their trade.

As well as exploring these unchanged villages you also have the opportunity of discovering the natural paradise that it the North Pindos National Park - this alone contains two National Forest Parks, which cover over 80% of the National Park, as well as canyons and gorges, of which the most impressive is the Vikos Gorge. 900 metres deep and 12 kms long it has exceptional vegetation, including wild herbs and five plant species, unique to this area.
Another delight on this trip is encountering the many stone 'packhorse' bridges, famous in this area. These arched bridges and the cobbled paths used to be the only link between these out-of-the-way villages and the outside world.
