Like the name implies the Riad Al Madina is an excellent town house conversion (actually two), this particular one dates from the 1870’s. During the 1960’s and 1970’s it was known as the Hotel du Pacha and counted a number of famous musicians amongst its clientele. The current hotel came into being in 1997 with a splendid renovation including the reappearance of many original Moorish arches and an infusion of originality together with numerous antiques. Located in the heart of Essaouira’s Medina the Riad Al Madina is ideally situated for exploring the town and for visits to the incredible harbour and, of course, the beach.

The central courtyard is full of antiques and traditional stonework and tiling. Rooms are located around the central Patio, covered by a traditional Zéllige and two central fountains, which are surrounded by flowers. The restoration of beautiful arcades and columns of stone give the patio an impressive atmosphere.

Accommodation:

23 simply furnished rooms all with private bathroom/shower and 9 suites (5 Riad, 3 Ambassador and 1 Royal) on two floors with no lift, suites have a full bathroom, telephone and TV.

Recommend small upgrade to riad suite as some std. rooms are quite small. In each room there is a bath-room and telephone; the suites have a television; all rooms are decorated with love in a typically Moroccan style, very authentic, varied, refined and charming.
