Croatia Island Hopping Holiday (South)

Dubrovnik to Split via two Adriatic Islands (public catamaran version)

Summary

Island hopping gives you the freedom of the sea; Croatia's fabulous network of fast ferry catamarans enables you to visit a choice of islands & two fabulous cities.

START - Dubrovnik / FINISH - Split

Activity code: CRIH02

Duration: 10 Days

Island Hopping is a very popular holiday option, particularly in southern Croatia, utilising the excellent fast ferry network to visit some of the most beautiful islands in the whole Mediterranean. Our suggested islands are Korcula and Hvar; however, you could also choose to include Mljet, Lopud, Brac or Vis nicely "book-ended" with stays in Split and Dubrovnik.

If you don't fancy driving on your holiday then we have the perfect solution; this Adriatic Island Hopping Holiday includes pre-booked passenger-only catamarans and ferries between all the islands and the various mainland ports. Many of the hotels are within easy walking distance of the harbours but we will include private transfers for the slightly longer ones (and to/from the airports, of course).

Spend a few days in Dubrovnik exploring the old town, take a boat trip or admire the views from the cable car and then you have a choice of islands to enjoy, whether that is historical sightseeing, sea-based activities, walking, traditional food (or fine dining) or taking in some spa treatments, we will advise which islands would work best for you. Of course you could then return to Dubrovnik if your flight schedule dictates but if possible we would recommend travelling on to Split where you can stay in the old city surrounded by remnants of the Roman Emporer Diocletian's Palace. From Split you can easily visit nearby Trogir using the ferry across the bay or take an excursion to stunning Krka National Park or the Cetina Valley for rafting and the fabulous zip-wire experience.

** this holiday works equally well if you would like to travel in the opposite direction or if you wished to swap island options, such as Brac and Mljet instead.

Highlights

Itinerary

Arrival at Dubrovnik airport; private transfer directly to your hotel. Balance of day sightseeing in Dubrovnik.

Two full days to explore the old town and its nearby beaches and countryside independently or with a choice of pre-booked excursions and activities.

Day 2 - Optional Guided Tour: Dubrovnik Panorama & Sightseeing "... those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik" (George Bernard Shaw). This tour will reveal the finest sites of the old walled City as well as give you an opportunity to view it from above. Our guide will lead you through the narrow streets of the Old Town introducing you to the history and culture of this magnificent city. Balance of day to explore on your own or relax at your hotel.

Day 3 - we suggest a day trip to either the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro or Mostar in Bosnia & Herzegovina on an organised excursion.

Private transfer and choice of catamaran sailing directly from Dubrovnik to Korcula Town.

Korcula town is considered the birthplace of Marco Polo. Experience the narrow streets, churches and palaces in one of the best preserved Mediaeval towns in the Mediterranean. With the catamaran schedules it is also possible to have a reasonably full day on Mljet Island's national park whilst staying on Korcula (this can be pre-booked as part of your itinerary).

[Alternatively, take the catamaran to Pomena on Mljet Island and stay in a hotel overlooking the bay. On this island you are surrounded by nature, plenty of opportunities to explore on foot and on the sea.]

Morning at leisure in Korcula; onward sailing from Korcula Town to Hvar Town.

NB. depending upon your choice of hotel in Hvar Town we can also include an arrival transfer and/or luggage assistance for you.

[Alternatively, take the catamaran to Bol on Brac Island and stay in a hotel overlooking the famous Zlatni Rat or Golden Horn Bay. On this island you are surrounded by nature and plenty of opportunities for activities and sightseeing.]

A free day to explore Hvar Town, we suggest a walk up to the castle before it gets too hot.

Optional Tour: Hvar Town Sightseeing Tour. When we think of Hvar - we think about the island of heather, sunshine and crickets, the island of lavender, sage and wine and the island of rosemary and secluded coves.

Optional Excursion: Visit Pakleni Islands. The most popular beaches of Hvar are situated on the Pakleni islands archipelago (about twenty islets right opposite the town of Hvar). This archipelago is the most beautiful part of the Hvar Riviera and can be easily reached by frequent taxi boats from the harbour, just outside the Arsenal. Pakleni islands have numerous bathing places and a myriad of small, secluded beaches.

Recommended places to stay

Depart on ferry from Hvar Town directly to Split; private transfer on arrival to your hotel.

Optional Tour: Old City of Split. Today's Split is the product of 17 centuries of building, renovating and remodeling. At the core of this sprawling cityscape is the palace that Emperor Diocletian built for his golden years at the turn of the 4th century. What began as an imperial residence and fortified camp is today an intriguing warren of narrow cobblestone streets, where pre-Romanesque churches live alongside Gothic chapels, history-filled museums abut galleries of contemporary art and restaurants compete with bustling cafes for the attention of passers-by.

Free day to explore Split or visit nearby places of interest such as the Roman ruins of Salona, the Kliss Fortress or Trogir (it is possible to visit Trogir using local passenger ferry across the bay). Perhaps you may also be interested to do some rafting or ride the zip wire in the Cetina Valley near Omis or a day trip to the Krka National Park.

Private departure transfer to Split Airport for your flight home.
