About Croatia Self Drive 06 - Classic Croatia
A full route which includes Croatia's "best bits". On this holiday you will visit the capital city, the Adriatic coast and its islands plus some of Croatia's incredible national parks. This is designed as a linear route so you can reverse the direction of travel if you wish.
START - Zagreb / FINISH - Dubrovnik.
Activity code: CRFD06
Duration: 15 days
This fly drive itinerary is our most popular itinerary offering a recommended holiday of 2 weeks in Croatia. Starting in the Capital, Zagreb, it includes national parks, historic towns, beautiful islands and much more. The itinerary concludes in Dubrovnik but can easily be reversed with the flexible flight schedule now available.
The holiday begins with a smooth transfer service to your hotel in Zagreb where you have a couple of days to visit the city on foot and using its excellent public transport. Your hire car will be delivered to you and you can head straight out into the countryside in the direction of your first major stop, the stunning Plitvice Lakes National Park. Each day's drive is not so far so you have plenty of time to do some sightseeing, walking or take an extended lunch / picnic along the way. Your first sight of the coast comes at the lovely old town of Zadar which also has some innovative new sights up its sleeve. Travelling along the coast you can visit another national park, Krka, which is similar to Plitvice en route to your next main stop, either Trogir or Split (you can choose either according to your preference and in the main season it is easy to travel between on the local ferry across the bay). Time to relax or perhaps take up the offer to do some rafting or the mulit-zip-wire experience in the Cetina Valley.
For the second week of the trip you could give up the car and travel on the catamaran service to Dubrovnik via an island (or two) of your choice but sticking with the self-drive we recommend staying in Hvar Town for a couple of nights and then traversing the island to get the ferry over to the mainland (thereby avoiding backtracking to Split). Once back on the mainland you can stay in Ston and sample oysters and walk the walls or consider travelling inland to Mostar in Bosnia & Herzegovina prior to arriving in Dubrovnik. Mostar may be a day trip destination for many holidaying in Croatia but its stunning bridge, which was lovingly reconstructed after the war in the 1990s, and the old town's atmosphere is well worth the overnight stay.
If you have a few extra days or wish to cut down the locations along the way you may wish to consider a few days in Montenegro which can be tailored to your preference between the beach resort of Budva with its tranquil old town and Kotor with its impressive walls, historic buildings and challenging walk up the "staircase" to the fortress high above.
We feel that the best finale to this holiday is a few nights in Dubrovnik where you can relax, enjoy some activities and sightseeing without your car as the local buses and cable car offer an excellent service.

"Thank you Andy for your guidance / advice throughout the whole booking process. To start in Zagreb at a nice hotel and finish in Dubrovnik at an even nicer hotel was a treat (well done me for choosing the hotels). It was helpful having the route planner on the correspondence. Hiring a Garmin Satnav is not essential as the signposting is better than we have here - and for information the app "Here Drive" works well. Wifi is available everywhere. This was one of the finest holidays we have taken and will surely return to the Villa Glavic in Dubrovnik which has the use of the parent hotel's facilities (Grand Villa Argentina)."

"This was the first time we did a driving holiday in a country in Europe. The information we received from the agent about travel times was exact. We got a brand new car for our 8-day drive through beautiful Croatia, which we truly appreciated. The choice of hotels was excellent and well located in each of the cities we visited. We were in Croatia during the Euros and had a great time watching and rooting for team Croatia in front of large television screens set up just about everywhere. Our trip to Croatia was truly memorable."

"We had a great trip. Thank you !!!"

"Thank you very much for helping us to enjoy a most memorable family holiday. We all enjoyed every bit of this trip and we will most definitely contact you again when planning our next trip. We were very happy with five of the six hotels we stayed in. Bad weather for three of the last four days of our trip restricted the number of activities we could do in Hvar and Dubrovnik, especially missing out on the green and blue grotto's around the island of Vis was quite disappointing for the children. Not having parking closer to Hotel Villa Nora in Hvar was a bit of an inconvenience, however the exceptional service we received from the host made up for that. Hotel accommodation close to the old town in Dubrovnik would have been preferred, especially due to the fact that we have already returned our rental car. In general we have had a great time in a very beautiful country with friendly people and all bookings and arrangements were without any issues. "

"We've done road trips round other countries before but this one seemed just a little bit more luxurious. We very much appreciated the taxi transfers from the airport being organised for us already. Likewise, it was fantastic to have the hire care delivered to us and picked up afterwards. These two manoeuvres have caused a lot of hassle in the past. This kind of holiday can be exhausting enough as it is. I also liked that the rooms had been so carefully chosen. It seemed like you'd had a look round the hotels already and requested specific rooms. Obviously, these rooms weren't the cheapest the hotels had to offer, and that's not what we normally book. The hotels were all really easy to find and had good locations, except one we had trouble with. The Korkyra Apartments on Korcula took us till midnight to reach, after catching the last ferry. If we'd come from the short ferry from Orebic, round the corner, it would have been brilliant. But we were coming from Vela Luka and our satnat took us down a pedestrianised road in Korcula town. Otherwise, everything was brilliant and the whole itinerary went according to plan 99% of the time. Even the plans I made for day trips went smoothly. We felt very lucky the whole time. I think Croatia is a country that is really geared up to tourism. They do everything full on, one hundred percent, so everything is as easy as possible for visitors. We hardly had to queue for anything in Plitvice Lakes even though they have 1.3 million visitors per year there."

"Car hire company were excellent. Best service I have ever had from a car hire company. Polite, helpful and nothing too much trouble. Would use again. Your local representative was excellent."

"We are back home and suffering from post holiday withdrawal, we have thousands of photos to sort through and just as many wonderful memories. I thought while it is all still fresh that I would drop you a line to say thanks. The whole trip was amazing and everything worked without a single hitch. The hotels that you booked for us were spot on and the car hire etc all worked perfectly. Really the holiday could not have been easier so a massive thank you for all your advice and organising. The highlights were the national parks. Apart from Plitvice, we also visited Krka and Paklenica and could have spent longer at all of them. Split, Trogir and Dubrovnic were amazing but busy, I also loved the smaller villages that were less crowded. The Sail /Bike trip that we added in was an amazing way to see some of the Islands and it fitted perfectly into your itinerary. A final big thanks to you - it was so easy to arrange this trip, you were always prompt with your responses, answered all my questions and took all the stress out of planning this holiday. A pleasure to do business with. "

"We returned just over a week ago from a super holiday, everything went to plan and we really enjoyed the range of hotels you'd selected. Only one mishap - Dan left some clothes in a hotel which serves us right for tidying up after our kids! We arranged for them to be posted back and got them a few days ago - brilliant. Overall we had a great time and would like to thank you for making all of the arrangements that worked so well. I'd be happy to send you extra feedback and a few photos if you'd like."

"We took a number of lovely detours during the drives, and particularly loved Podgora and Gradac on the coast. We were very happy with Andy at Rediscover the World, who was extremely informative and efficient. He made the transition from destination to destination smooth and trouble free."
