Itinerary

  • Day 1: Oslo - arrival

Arrive in the city of Oslo. Transfer to your hotel.

Overnight in Oslo for 2 nights on BB basis.

  • Day 2: Oslo

You have the day free to explore Norway's capital. Take in one or more of the many museums and a visit to the famous Vigeland Sculpture Park is a must!

  • Day 3: Oslo - Bergen

Spend the morning in Oslo (or you may choose a later train in which case you will have longer!) Board the train for the scenic 7 hour journey west to Bergen, often called the 'best train ride in the world'. No other train ride between two cities in Europe is at a higher altitude than the one between Oslo and Bergen. Linking Norway's two main cities, this line takes in some dazzling scenery, with the most spectacular stretch being the one over the Hardangervidda, Europe's highest mountain plateau. Finse, at 1,222 metres above sea level, is the highest point on the line. Arrive into Bergen in the evening.

Overnight in Bergen for 2 nights on BB basis.

  • Day 4: - Bergen

Day at leisure in Bergen. Take the Fløibanen funicular from the city centre to the top of Mount Fløyen, or a cable car to the summit of the highest mountain, Mount Ulriken. Enjoy some peace and quiet whilst taking in fabulous views of the city beneath you. Sample the delicacies on offer at the Fish Market, or visit the Bergen Aquarium. Take a stroll on Bryggen, the first place to be inhabited in the city, and included on UNESCO's World Heritage list. The World Heritage site consists of the old Hanseatic wharf and buildings - the German Hanseatic League set up one of its import and export offices at Bryggen in the 14th century, dominating trade for almost 400 years. To stroll through Bryggen’s narrow alleyways and overhanging galleries is to step back into the mists of time and a bygone era. Today, there are several attractions in the Bryggen area, from the Fish Market to Bergenhus Fortress and there's a good choice of cafés, restaurants and shops - many of these shops sell traditional crafts.

  • Day 5: Bergen (am) - Hurtigruten Cruise (pm)

Due to the timing of the Hurtigruten cruise to Svolvaer you have another full day in Bergen, [you may wish to book your room for another day].

Embarkation in the evening; accommodation will be in a cabin on BB basis.

  • Day 6: Hurtigruten cruise

Relax and enjoy spectacular scenery from your ship.

Overnight on cruise ship on BB basis

  • Day 7: Hurtigruten Cruise

Another full day on board to appreciate the ever-changing scenery.

Overnight on cruise ship on BB basis.

  • Day 8: Hurtigruten cruise - Svolvaer

Spend your last day aboard ship, disembarking in the evening in Svolvaer on the Lofoten Islands.

Overnight in Svolvaer on BB basis.

  • Day 9: Lofoten Islands

Your rental car will be delivered to your hotel in the morning. Scenic drive from Svolvaer to Reine via the National Tourist Road. Possible detours you may like to make are to the fishing village of Nusfjord, one of Norway's oldest and best preserved fishing villages, Flakstad Church, second oldest church on the islands and the long, sandy beach at Ramberg.

Overnight in a rorbu at Reine for 2 nights on self catering basis.

  • Day 10: Lofoten Islands

Day at leisure in the area. You may choose to relax or to visit Reine itself, Å, Sørvågen or Moskenes.

  • Day 11: Lofoten Islands

Scenic drive from Reine to Mortsund. We recommend a detour to the lovely village of Sund to visit the famous blacksmith, who is renowned for making wrought-iron cormorants. They have been made here for more than fifty years and make an ideal gift.

Overnight in Mortsund for 2 nights in a rorbu on self catering basis.

  • Day 12: Lofoten Islands

Day at leisure. You could make a round trip of Vestvågøy Island

  • Day 13 - Lofoten, departure.

Drop off the car at Leknes Airport prior to your return flight.

Reviews

"We are home from our memorable trip to Norway and would like to thank you so very much for your brilliant organisational skills. Everything went really smoothly and we appreciate the detailed touches, like accommodation with easy access to train/boat and plane connections, etc. We particularly enjoyed our stay in Tromso and our time in Oslo. We would like to reiterate how much we appreciated the thought and attention to detail which Dawn invested in our holiday bookings. Thank you very much."
