Christmas at Luosto - Short Break - 2008

A
Christmas holiday that will long fill the fondest memories of children and adults alike. Lapland is for sure the most magical place to spend Christmas. On Christmas Day itself your family will meet Santa in a beautiful log cabin deep within the snowy forest. Then there's the special reminders of home with Christmas puddings, mince pies and cake on the menu.

Includes:
Return flights, accommodation on full board, Search for Father Christmas, individual family meeting with Santa, gift allowance for children, reindeer and husky dog sleigh rides, skidoos, snow games, children's entertainment. Transfers, thermal overalls AND boots are also included as well as souvenir licences, CD and DVD and, of course, Christmas Day festive dinner.

Resort

Luosto
Lying some 90 minutes north of Rovaniemi and 100 minutes from Kittila is the ski resort of Luosto comprising two hotels, a small cluster of beautiful log cabins, nestling amongst the fir trees and adjacent to a slalom ski slope and an attractive log cabin restaurant. It is such a beautiful and peaceful area that it is quite possible to believe that Father Christmas lives behind Luosto fell.

Itinerary:

23 December
Following your arrival in Lapland you will be transferred to Luosto where you check-in to your log cabin or resort hotel. Evening dinner will be provided followed by allocation of warm overgarments and snow boots.

24 December
Will today be the day you find Santa Claus? The adventure is planned for today using a combination of skidoos, husky dogs and reindeer. Hopefully Donner and Blitzen will give some assistance to find Santa but fear not, if you do not find him today you are sure to track him down on Christmas Day when he returns from his worldwide task. Lunch will be taken at an outside venue. This evening, back in Luosto, a superb traditional Finnish Christmas buffet dinner will be served.

25 December
An open air Christmas church service will be held at Luosto early in the morning, illuminated by fantastic ice lanterns and bright log torches. After the Christmas Day service you return for a hearty breakfast before continuing the Search for Santa Claus. This will be a unique chance for children to receive a present and to meet Father Christmas on Christmas Day! Skidoos, reindeer and huskies will later be used, and an outside lunch will be provided. Tonight, enjoy a typical festive spread enhanced with traditional favourites like mince pies, stilton, Christmas cake and Christmas pudding!

26 December
A relaxing day is planned for today. You may choose to go skiing, (slalom or cross country), or to visit a nearby activity centre where a range of activities will be provided. Activities here will include skidoo slalom competitions, tobogganing and mini ice - based competitions. One of these challenges could even be the chance to light a fire in the Arctic. Once again a typical outdoor meal will be served and lunch is only available at the activity centre. This evening enjoy a farewell dinner recounting the day's experiences to your newfound friends.

27 December
A choice of Lapland activities is offered for your final morning here in Luosto. Join in the mini snow games where you can try your hand at a tug of war competition. Alternatively ice skate to musical accompaniment, simply enjoy the pleasures of tobogganing or relax and enjoy the resort. Lunch will be taken in Luosto and there will be the opportunity to buy souvenirs of Lapland before transferring back for your return flight to the UK.

ACCOMMODATION:

The well-appointed Hotel Luostotunturi was designed to fit into the natural beauty of the area and is built in the shape ofa reindeer earmarking!   Cabins vary in style but in each one you will find your own private sauna, shower and wc, kitchen area, TV and a warm air clothes dryer.

Twin rooms have shower, wc, TV with video satellite channel, telephone, hairdryer and minibar.

Family rooms for 3 or 4 persons can be provided with 2 individual beds and a convertible double sofa bed, or a duplex room with 2 beds at the lower level and 2 mattress beds for children at the higher level reached by a staircase (with safety gate).

A highlight is the Amethyst Spa swimming pool (a grouse shaped Roman bath with various water jet massage points) and 2 jacuzzis. Breakfast and dinner are buffet style.

For the romantics at heart there is a wonderful log fire in each one (although all have central heating as well!)

Open plan cabins normally provide 2 double beds built into the wood at a lower level and 2 upper beds. Others may provide a different breakdown of beds but will still provide for a maximum of 6 persons. These will be situated 5 to 25 minutes walk from the main log cabin restaurant.

Two bedroom cabins generally accommodate 4 persons, although it may be possible to obtain some for 6 persons. These cabins are situated 15 to 30 minutes walk from the restaurant.

Five 'log rooms' are also available within the main building which that houses the log cabin restaurant - these are suitable for elderly persons in the party who may not wish to walk to and from the cabins. Please note that these rooms do not have a sauna or log fire. Towels and linen are provided in the cabins and log rooms and clients may use the facilities such as the swimming pool, solarium etc at the Hotel Luostotunturi as an additional cost.

Aurora Chalet Hotel

The Aurora Chalet Hotel was opened in Luosto in August 2005. It is a small quality hotel offering private facilities in all bedrooms as well as private saunas.

Rooms vary in size; some have private fireplace and are very cosy! Suitable for between 2 and 4 persons offering twins or triples with the larger rooms having a convertible sofa for 2. A small restaurant for up to 60 and a lobby bar seating up to 30 complete the fine facilities of this hotel.

Igloo accommodation

Whether you are accommodated in a hotel or cabin the lure of the Arctic may prevail. Igloos will be built (subject to satisfactory weather conditions) and you are invited to stay overnight in one at no extra charge. Please let us know if you wish to do this!

Meals:

Breakfast and evening meals are taken in the main log cabin restaurant or the hotel restaurant. Persons accommodated in log cabins managed through the Hotel Luostotunturi eat in the Luostotunturi restaurant. Other cabin guests will be generally allocated the log cabin restaurant, but where numbers need to be balanced, you may be allocated the Luostotunturi restaurant or the Luoston Hovi restaurant. This will be stated on your final itinerary. The main log cabin restaurant is now totally non-smoking.

Guests accommodated at the Aurora Chalet Hotel are offered buffet breakfast and waiter service for evening meals (parents can discuss children's needs with the waiter). All meals are buffet style at the main log cabin restaurant and the hotel. For dinner children have the opportunity to select from their own buffet, or select from the adult buffet. During activity days meals are taken at an outdoor venue. On the final day all guests will eat at the log cabin restaurant or the hotel. Drinks are not included with meals and should be paid for locally.

Should you wish to try some typical Lappish cuisine during your stay then it is possible to eat at Kertulli's, a small restaurant with waiter service, facing the hotel and within walking distance from the cabins. Lappish meals are built around soups, main courses consisting of reindeer and desserts of cheese and berries. You can select from the restaurant's a la carte menu and child friendly meals can be prepared if required. A supplement is payable if you would prefer to eat here and this must be booked at the time of your initial holiday reservation - it cannot be booked in resort. Reservations can only be accepted for the full tour duration and not on a nightly basis. Prices do not include drinks.
