About Hotel Sighisoara

Hotel Sighisoara is housed in a building bearing the insignia of nobility from 1520; since then, it has undergone a fascinating history, in tune with the old citadel of Sighisoara. It proudly resisted the great fire of 1676 that ravaged almost the entire city, also kept through the centuries, almost untouched, one of the oldest hunting fresco in black ink, which manages to remain a vivid insight into the Renaissance. From the late 19th Century the building became the town hall. One of its most notable occupants was Bishop Georg Paul Binder (1784-1867) - born in Sighisoara, educated in Latin and Greek at the City Gymnasium, he continued his studies in Cluj and then in Tübingen, where he specialized in theology, philosophy and philology. In 1806 her returned as professor at the School on the Hill Fortress before serving as a priest in Saschiz and then until the end of his life, as a bishop in Biertan.
