About Maison du Sud
The Maison du Sud dates from the 18th Century and is located in the centre of town, on a pedestrianised side street and is a beautiful, traditional riad and peaceful haven. A smaller property than many but offering a similar style and standard of accommodation, just 300m to the beach. The heart of the pedestrianised Old City is the location of the eighteenth century RIAD SOUIRI – now luxuriously renovated in Moorish style as the Maison du Sud.
A very homely feel though as it is an intimate riad with comfortable puiblic lounge and central courtyard. Ideal accommodation for your stay in Essaouira, nicely renovated, features a shaded central courtyard with a fountain and colourful azulejos tiles. In the afternoon, comfortably sitting in a deckchair, you can enjoy the traditional mint tea on the large rooftop terrace, which boasts wonderful views of the sea and Essaouira.
This riad is available as part of any tailor made holiday with Rediscover the World.
Accommodation: a variety of rooms (24 in total), all have en-suite bathrooms and decorated with traditional furniture and a mix of Moroccan and Andalusian styles. All rooms are duplex, family/quad rooms available - there are some that sleep 4 persons and one that can sleep 5 (suitable only for families though). 8 rooms on a mezzanine floor with a snug little sitting room; 3 two-person suites and 3 four-person suites. The room and suites all open onto a light-filled interior patio with pretty tiles. All have scrupulously clean bathrooms.
Facilities: the covered inner courtyard contains a small seating area. The management will offer drinks, meals and room service on request. A delightful roof terrace with panoramic views. Credit cards accepted, English spoken. Moroccan meals served on request - a chance to discover Moroccan gastronomy and enjoy traditional dishes served in cosy sitting rooms – their talented chef has created some interesting menus based on fresh local produce from the market and the port. You'll find attentive service, comfortable sitting rooms and sunny roof terrace with views of the sea and the roof of the Mellah.
Our opinion - friendly, colourful and well looked after riad, still good quality for its price range.
Transfer Time from Airport:
"I just wanted to let you know that we had a great trip and to thank you again for all of your help. All of the places we stayed at were very nice and so were the guides and the transfer drivers. We especially loved the Tatfi hotel near Ouirgane where we had a nice fireplace inside our room. It was very nice not to have to worry about all of the transfers and booking tours. Happy New Year!"
