Imperial Cities Tour

From Agadir or Marrakech we travel up the spectacular Atlantic coast to Rabat via the former Portuguese towns of Essaouira and El Jadida as well as passing through Casablanca. Visits also included to Meknes, Volubilis and Fez in the middle of the tour which then finishes in Marrakech following a drive through the Mid Atlas Mountains.

| Day 2 Atlantic Coast
Scenic drive up the Atlantic coastline to Essaouira, a stunning old Portuguese fortified city. walking tour of the medina and sea walls, lunch in small fish restaurant. Then continue up the coast to Safi for dinner and overnight. NB. if starting in Marrakech then the day starts with the drive due west via Chichoau to Essaouira.

Day 3 Safi - Rabat Continuing the drive along the coast with a visit to El Jadida and its Portuguese cisterns. Lunch is taken in Casablanca, the commercial capital of Morocco and today the site of the magnificent Hassan II Mosque before travelling on to Rabat, the Imperial capital. Visit to Hassan Tower and Maosoleum of Mohammed V, where his late Majesty King Hassan II is also buried. Dinner and overnight in Rabat. |

| Day 4 Rabat - Fez
After completing our visit of Rabat we continue on to Meknes, the old capital of Moulay Ishmail, his stables there once housed 12,000 horses. Lunch in Meknes and on to Volubilis, the magnificent Roman site - mosaics here are particularly well preserved. Dinner and overnight in Fez. |

Day 5 Fez Full day in Fez beginning with a tour of historical sights, with time to explore what some people regard as the finest living example of a mediaeval Arab city. Tour includes visits to the Karouine Mosque, the Medersas and the narrow winding alleys that make up the souks; not forgetting the tanneries. Lunch in the medina of Fez. Dinner and overnight in Fez. |

| Day 6 Fez - Marrakech
Journeying south to Marrakech via the almost Alpine ski resort of Ifrane, through the Mid Atlas Mountains where you will likely see the Barbary Apes (reliably found in the Cedar Forest near Azrou) and then on to Beni Mellal in the fruit growing region. Finishing our journey in late afternoon at the Imperial capital of the Almohads. Dinner and overnight in Marrakech. |

Day 7 Marrakech A full day in Marrakech with the historical sights in the morning. Lunch in your hotel then afternoon in the souks and the Djemma el Fna, perhaps the highlight of the whole day with its myriad of street performers. Dinner is in a Moroccan folklore restaurant with entertainment. |
