Marrakech has much to offer the visitor - the historic and labyrinthine Medina, the majesty of the Palaces, the tranquility of its many gardens and the sophistication of its more modern boulevards and cafes. Today, Marrakech has become a thriving metropolis with chic night spots, top restaurants and a very modern atmosphere in places. All of which emphasises the immense historical context of the Medina and its focal point, the Djemma el Fna.

Essaouira's houses and shops in the medina are white-washed with blue doors and shutters. An expansive sandy beach is located next to the harbour and is shallow enough for safe bathing. Essaouira is a fascinating former Portuguese fishing port and standing on the impressive battlements looking out over the line of cannons and on out to sea it is impossible not to think of the history this town has seen and the daily adventures of the local fishing boat crews. This is the place to eat fish – sit down at any stall in the harbour at lunchtime and feast yourself on the freshest and most varied fish BBQ you will ever encounter. A short walking tour of Essaouira is also part of the itinerary.
