Magic of Lapland Lapp Village Short Break - 3 days - 2008

Itinerary

Day One:

Upon arrival in Kittila you will transfer to the Lapp Village in Akaslompolo (approx 50 minutes). Here you collect your thermal clothing before being taken directly to your cabin. Lunch will be at the Poro restaurant in the Lapp Village. After lunch you leave for a husky dog farm for a husky dog safari followed by coffee and warm juice with pancakes.

Welcome drinks and dinner at the Poro restaurant at the Lapp Village.

Day Two:

Breakfast in your cabin. A day in the Lapp Village to enjoy the wide range of activities - Arctic Circle ceremony, tandem skiing, snowshoe walking, kick sledging, toboganning, children's snowmobiles, making gingerbread cookies and Christmas decorations. Lunch is served throughout the day. Snowmobile and reindeer ride in the search for Santa's cabin followed by an individual family visit to Santa.

In the evening is a real treat! You will be taken to Yllasjarvi, a small village 13km from Akaslompolo for a festive dinner in a traditional Lappish kota (tepee). Traditional dishes are cookd on an open fire in front of the guests.

Day Three:

Breakfast in your cabin and then time for more snow fun activities at the Lapp Village - snowshoe walking, toboganning, kick sledging and children's snowmobiles. Optional excursions will be available at extra cost. After lunch at the Poro restaurant you can enjoy the wilderness snowmobile safari through unspoilt Lappish wilderness with a stop in the forest for warm drinks and a snack. Adults can drive their own snowmobiles through the Lappish countryside and forests, whilst children and those who do not wish to drive are pulled in sleighs. After returning the thermal clothing you transfer to the airport for the flight home.

 

ACCOMMODATION

Lapp Village Cabins, Akaslompolo, Yllas

The Lapp Village cabins are located in Akaslompolo, just 200m from the Lapp Village. It is a small, uncommercialised and family run village with the Aurora restaurant Poro (Reindeer) as the central feature and a stylish handicraft shop. The cabins with the four self-contained apartments (Malla, Mella, Salla and Saana) are built in true Lappish style from centuries old logs. Each cabin apartment measures 65sq.m and consists of a kitchen/living room with fireplace and sauna, shower, WC and a double bedroom on the ground floor and sofa and twin beds on the upper floor. Just a few metres away is a lodge with the traditional Finnish smoked sauna and the fireplace lodge, Takkaporo, where the meals are prepared by a chef in front of the guests on an open fire. This is ideal for parties of up to eight who wish to have their festive dinner in privacy or indeed a special dinner on the evening of arrival. Thismust be booked and has a supplement of £25 per adult and £10 per child. Cabins have: sauna, fireplace, firewood, shower, WC, hairdryer, clothes dryer, digital TV and DVD player on the ground floor, TV on the mezzanine, fridge, coffee maker and can accommodate up to 6 people with children over the age of 7. Cabins are non smoking. Breakfast is served in the cabins and a welcomepack with coffee, tea and milk is provided. Due to privacy and the size of the location there is no reception however cabins and guests are looked after by a Lapp Village host.
