| OUARZAZATE - AÏT SAOUINE - OURIKA - AGDZ - OUARZAZATE | ||
Departure from Ouarzazate at around 08:00 in the morning south-eastwards towards the Drâa Valley . Leaving the plains behind us after about one hour’s drive up twisting bends and Tizis, between stark mountains, dunes and palmeraies, we arrive at the picturesque Berber village of Aït Saouine, with the Jbel Azougguich Akhatar frowning down on us. We alight here to stroll around this village set amongst palmeraies and orchards, thence to set out for some four hours’ easy hiking alongside the waterfalls and a landscape of layered strata of the oued until we reach the village of Ourika , where, around midday , we shall picnic next to a waterfall. |
||
Onwards ever southwards, now for about three hours through small dunes, palmeraies, the occasional dromedaries and Berber hamlets to the village and simple yet solidly-designed kasbah of Agdz, (pronounced Ag-a-dèz) with the starkly-eroded tajine pot shaped Jbel Kissane, an outcrop of the Jbel Sarhro range, in the immediate background. Just to the north of this blood-red coloured village is a beautiful palmeraie and a delightful valley just waiting for us to stroll through – the intense blue of the sky, brilliant green vegetation, red earth mixed with yellow sandy soil are a sight to behold! From here, we rejoin our vehicle at around 16:30 to take us back to Ouarzazate. |
