An absolute gem of a riad and one of our favourites, the 18th century Riad Kniza is located close to one of the nine gates of the 12th century ramparts of Marrakech and only 15 minutes walk from the Koutoubia Mosque. The Riad Kniza is a real treasure in the heart of the city and is set to be one of our most popular finds.

The riad is owned by Mohammed Bouskri, a real gentleman and a former tour guide of Marrakech who has shown many dignitaries around the city in his time including 4 US Presidents. Mr Bouskri will be more than delighted to share his deep knowledge of the city and country with guests of the riad. The riad itself is run by his son, educated partly in the US, who speaks many languages including Hebrew and makes you feel instantly at home. Mohammed's wife owns an antique shop in the city and there is evidence throughout the riad from the beautiful silver jewellery displayed in the lounge to the black and white prints on the staircase dating from the 1890’s.

The riad has been a labour of love for the last 4 years and the attention to detail is phenomenal. The stunning cedar woodwork on the ceilings and doors was hand carved by 18 craftsmen over a period of two years. The fabrics were handmade by the same lady who makes the curtains for the Royal Palace - look out for the cream and red curtains in the downstairs lounge; these were completely embroidered by hand and took 4 years alone to make. Looking down to the central courtyard from above you can appreciate the carvings around the top of the patio. These sayings, based on the Koran, were again initially sketched by hand and recreated in plasterwork.
