Mortsund Rorbuer

Mortsund, Lofoten islands

About Mortsund Rorbuer

Stay in a traditional fisherman's cabin in this traditional hamlet. A great base for exploring the islands.

Mortsund is a lovely fishing hamlet. For centuries many fishermen would come to the islands for the arrival of the spawning cod from January until April and stay in wooden fishermen's cabins (rorbuer) it was thanks to the building of a road in the early 20th century that Mortsund's popularity increased. Today the fish-factory in the port buys cod during the fishing season in the winter and hangs the fish to dry for the Italian market, but also makes cod-liver oil and salted fish for Spain and Portugal.
