Croatia - Three Centre Holiday

Dubrovnik, Hvar, Split

Summary

Split, Dubrovnik and the Island of Hvar. A perfect introduction to Croatia and a great combination for a relaxing holiday on the beautiful Adriatic.

START - Dubrovnik / FINISH - Split

Activity code: CR3C02

Duration: 8 Days

This is one of our most popular holidays as it includes three of the best locations in southern Croatia. We can arrange this itinerary either on a self-drive basis or include door-to-door private transfers with inter-linking ferries & catamarans. There are also lots of optional extras to pre-book such as sightseeing excursions, activities, meals and spa treatments. A great introduction to Croatia....

Each of the two main journeys is not a long drive so you have plenty of time to enjoy the fabulous scenery and places of interest along the way. After an initial drive up the coast from Dubrovnik, travelling through the "Bosnia Corridor", you will reach the small port of Drvenik for a short ferry crossing to Hvar Island followed by a stunning drive along the spine of the island to the lovely Hvar Town in the west. In Hvar we recommend a visit to the castle high up overlooking the bay and perhaps a boat trip to either the Pakleni Islands or to the Blue Cave. From Hvar there is a fast catamaran directly to Split on the mainland. You can choose to stay in either Split or nearby Trogir because in the main season it is easy to travel between them on the local ferry across the bay. Once in Split you can explore the old city on foot, relax or perhaps take up the offer to do some rafting or the mulit-zip-wire experience in the Cetina Valley, near Omis.

** this holiday works equally well if you would like to travel in the opposite direction or if you wished to swap Hvar Island for one of its neighbours, such as Brac or Korcula instead.

Highlights

Itinerary

Arrival at Dubrovnik airport; private transfer directly to your hotel.

Two full days to explore the old town and its nearby beaches and countryside independently or with a choice of pre-booked excursions and activities.

Day 2 - Optional Guided Tour: Dubrovnik Panorama & Sightseeing "... those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik" (George Bernard Shaw). This tour will reveal the finest sites of the old walled City as well as give you an opportunity to view it from above. Our guide will lead you through the narrow streets of the Old Town introducing you to the history and culture of this magnificent city. Balance of day to explore on your own or relax at your hotel.

Day 3 - we suggest a day trip to either the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro or Mostar in Bosnia & Herzegovina either on an organised excursion or by having your hire car a day early.

A private transfer from your hotel in Dubrovnik up the coast road which passes through Mali Ston** and the "Bosnia Corridor" to Ploce and the short ferry crossing from nearby Drvenik to Sucuarj on Hvar Island. Once on Hvar there is a stunning drive along the spine of the island to the west coast and Hvar Town (total transfer duration approx. 4.5hrs).

** we can include a stop along the way to visit the incredible walls at Ston.

If doing this part of the holiday as a self-drive you have many options including the Arboretum at Trsteno, the impressive walls at Ston, (a place also famous for its oysters), the Peljesac Peninsula, Korcula island, even Mostar in nearby Bosnia, prior to the ferry crossing over to Hvar Island.

Recommended places to stay

A full day to explore the old town including the castle high above you. There is also a choice of pre-booked excursions and activities such as a guided tour of the town, a boat trip to the Blue & Green Caves or a food and wine tour of the island.

Optional Tour: Hvar Town Sightseeing Tour with local guide. When we think of Hvar we think about the island of heather, sunshine and crickets, the island of lavender, sage and wine and the island of rosemary and secluded coves.

Transfer from Hvar Town to Split via ferry from Stari Grad (or on direct catamaran from Hvar Town to Split). If on self-drive version the car ferry is from Stari-Grad, the catamaran services are passenger only. You will probably go for a morning crossing to give you the afternoon and evening in Split. If you have a hire car then it also gives you the afternoon to visit nearby Salona and the Kliss Fortress.

Optional Tour: Split Sightseeing Tour. The old town of Split is built on and around the spectacular Roman Palace erected by the Roman Emperor Diocletian in the 4th century. The walking tour starts with a visit to the cellars of the Palace that are still very well preserved; the cellars offer a good view at how the life in the Palace was organized. Other sights such as the Golden Gate, the Silver Gate, the Peristyle Square etc. will be seen from the outside.

A day at leisure to explore Split on foot; possible day trips include nearby Trogir (by local ferry), Krka National Park (excursion or local bus) and the resort of Omis for rafting and/or zip-wire in the nearby Cetina Valley (also excursion or local bus).

Private transfer from your hotel to Split airport for your flight home.
