Slovenia's customs and culture have been influenced greatly by its surroundings. Its historic influences were Italy, Austria and Hungary but it has now been independent for two decades and is a full member of the EU. Slovenia has been described as having a "bridge" culture between east and west with its multilingual population and a mix of both Catholic and Orthodox churchgoers.
Bosnia and Herzegovina has had a very interesting history, although too often that history has been sad and turbulent, but that is exactly what gives this country its peculiarity. It has been part of the Ottoman Empire, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the kingdom of Yugoslavia between the wars and a Socialist Republic during the Cold War.
