About Arolithos Traditional Cretan Village
Arolithos is a traditional private Cretan village, lying 11 kilometers from Heraklion.
Built on the slope of a mountain, amidst the glorious Cretan landscape, the village is a feast for the eyes. It is a reconstruction of a typical Cretan village including two traditional 19th century houses, a hotel, restaurant and taverna, café and cafenion, as well as a small church for weddings and christenings. There are several arts and crafts workshops in the village (blacksmith's shop, ceramic art and weaving). You will also find a recent addition, the Museum of Rural History and Popular Art.
The hotel at Arolithos has 36 traditionally furnished rooms. These are arranged in small neighbourhoods, scattered around the village. Each has an en suite bathroom and air conditioning (extra local charge). Due to the very simple nature of the rooms the rooms do not have a TV or fridge but these are available on request. Most have balconies or courtyards overlooking the garden or surrounding hills.
In the summer the Arolithos hosts a Cretan evening where groups of folklore artists present dances and songs from Crete and from the rest of Greece. There is a delicious Cretan meal and an abundance of local wine to enjoy as well.
