  • DAY 1: FES - ERFOUD.

Departing your hotel in Fes at 7:30am, your driver will take you through the dramatic scenery of both the mid and high Atlas mountains on your way to the tiny desert town of Erfoud. Ask your driver to stop in the Cedar Forest near Azrou to watch the incredible Barbary Apes. On arrival at Erfoud you see a mix of peach, red and golden brown sand dunes rising up from the horizon - this is the destination for tomorrow - the dunes of Erg Chebbi. You will be taken to the Kasbah Tizimi for dinner and your overnight stay.

    • Overnight at friendly Kasbah Tizimi Hotel
    • Meals: Lunch, Dinner.

Following yesterday's long journey you will have the opportunity to relax by the pool at the Kasbah Tizimi or to stroll around Erfoud. A light lunch of your choice can be purchased at the hotel prior to your early afternoon departure to Merzouga by 4WD vehicle. On arrival at the Auberge du Sud you will be offered a mint tea.

After your baggage has been loaded on to the pack animals, at around 4pm in winter (5pm summer) you are ready to set off, one person per dromedary, for some 2 hours across a sea of golden dunes. This is the only 'true' desert area of the kingdom of Morocco and an area where meteorites continue to be found, as are crocodile teeth, shark, pterosaur and spinosaurus fossils. Your guide will stop in the "middle of nowhere" to witness, from the high dunes, Nature's incredible light show of sunset over ever-changing colours of dunes, then continue on under the star-filled heavens to your bivouac site of a carpeted Berber tent in a small oasis. First things first, a glass of mint tea once your packs are being unloaded. A tagine dinner is prepared and, after dessert, tea or coffee, you can sing and chat to your heart’s content.

    • Overnight at authentic Erg Chebbi Bedouin Camp
    • Meals: Breakfast, Dinner.

Our last brilliant sunrise*, equal almost to last night's unforgettable sunset, a Bedouin breakfast of tea, 'sand' bread, jam and cheese tucked away, dromedaries having been saddled up for the return stage, it is time to set off back across the plain around 8:30am for your final Meharee of some 2.5 hours to the Auberge Du Sud, where you'll have the opportunity to take a shower. At around 11:30am your driver will be waiting to return you to your original starting point of Fes.

    • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch.
