Argostoli

(Cephalonia)

Argostoli, the island capital, has a curious mix of modern and traditional whose juxtaposition is only understood when one knows of the devastating earthquake of 1953 which destroyed the town and many parts of the island, only the north escaped. A hub of restaurants, bars and nightclubs but still not what you would describe as 'heaving' and is fine for families at night, particularly in the square and the nearby harbour front (pictured above). Mouikis Hotel

Situated in a side street facing the promenade and with views over the harbour.

Accommodation:

The hotel has 41 rooms - some have double beds and some have twins. Suites are available - these have 2 bedrooms which share the same entrance and one bathroom. The hotel has a lift.

All rooms have air conditioning, hairdryer, kettle and TV

Facilities:

24 hour reception area with large bar, lounge with satellite TV, breakfast area with continental buffet (English breakfast is available at a supplement), small rooftop sun terrace.

The hotel lays on a bus which runs to its sister hotel, the Mouikis Village, 6 days a week, where there is a beautiful swimming pool.

Miramare Hotel

Situated along from port, 300m and 500m from town centre. Very clean and nice décor/furnishings.

Rooms:

59 rooms in hotel with twin beds, 60% have TV and all have a/c (centrally controlled, not all day and only in high season). Views from rooms of sea or mountain. Balconies. There are also larger rooms with 3 beds.

Facilities:

Large lounge area with TV and bar-terrace outside where people can have their breakfasts. Overlooks sea. Snacks also served. Reception sells postcards. Second lounge on ground floor, although smaller.

Aenos Hotel

Situated on the main square of Argostoli, central to shops, tavernas and restaurants. Renovated in 2001 - lovely décor. Friendly and family run hotel.

This hotel is open in the winter and owner is encouraging winter holidays.

Rooms:

Some rooms have double bed, others twin beds. All have TV and a/c and hairdryer. Showers in rooms. There are also triple rooms with 3 proper beds and 3 suites (beautiful). These sleep 2-4 persons - 2 in double bed and a large sofa that sleeps two when open. Lovely furniture inside and large bathroom with shower unit.

Balcony overlooks square or town and looks towards sea. Triple rooms do not have a balcony.

There is one very large room which can take 4 (one camp bed) but this is quite tight and is only suitable for a family and not recommended for 4 adults. No balcony. This is currently being adapted for disabled use - large bathroom with rails etc.

Facilities:

Inside there are wooden tables and central fireplace in bar, which is where the breakfast (American) is taken or on terrace facing square. Piano in bar. All rooms have modem point and telephone.
