The Republic of Montenegro, newly created in 2006, is located in Southeastern Europe between Croatia, Albania and Serbia. The country's native name is Crna Gora, which translates literally to black mountain or black forest. Montenegro has an unbelievably beautiful coast on the Adriatic sea taking in the stunning Bay of Kotor and the Budva Riviera whilst a little way inland is Montenegro's largest city and capital, Podgorica. A large part of Montenegro is covered with mountains (Highest - Mount Durmitor at 2,522 m) and thick forests with high peaks along its borders with Kosovo and Albania and a section of the Western Balkan Karst; some of the most rugged terrain in Europe.
Holidays in Montenegro offer such a dramatic contrast of locations for a small country so it is ideal for a fly drive, even over a short duration such as one week. There are many flights into Dubrovnik which is ideal for the Bay of Kotor and the Budva area of Montenegro's stunning coastline but there are also flights directly to Tivat (near Budva) and you may even consider arriving on the fabulously scenic rail line from Belgrade which passes through Podgorica on its way to the coast at Bar.
We have travelled extensively in Montenegro over many years, since it was part of Yugoslavia, going back to the mid 1980s. This experience, together with the knowledge gained from frequent visits, enables us to provide you with the most up-to-date and fullest possible assistance in planning your ideal holiday - we can put together any tailor-made itinerary for you to suit most budgets. We are fully bonded (ATOL & TTA) and provide full financial security and assistance should any part of your holiday not happen entirely to plan. If you were to assemble your holiday yourself you may not have this sort of protection nor would you be able to benefit from many of our special rates.
Montenegro's magical scenery and legendary hospitality are unquestionably real, as you'll confirm when you have explored the country, still waiting to be rediscovered.
Where to visit
Kotor is a spectacular setting offering historical sightseeing & superb countryside; the Bay of Kotor is often described as a fjord, you can see why with its narrow shape & steep sided slopes.
The national park & mountain of Durmitor consists of a high plateau intersected by deep canyons from which the imposing peaks rise. It is located in the north of Montenegro centred on Zabljak.
Kolasin, founded by Turks (17th C) is located near the Biogradsko Gora National Park, one of three preserved virgin forests of Europe & considered an "air spa" due to its clean air & climate.

"From start to finish, the whole process was excellent. Quick responses to questions during the booking process, timely updates on bookings, and documents received in good time. The holiday itself was very well organised, all hotel bookings, car hire etc. went smoothly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Rediscover the World to others."

"Thank you for your assistance with our recent trip to Croatia. It was a terrific experience and one of our best trips to date. We particularly enjoyed the week sailing in the islands near Split and the coast of the south. Mostar was a bit of a tough place but worth the day. The hotel was certainly not a highlight but passable for a single night. We loved Perast. Slovenia was less enjoyable unfortunately. I would suggest that you caution people regarding the mandatory sticker required for all vehicles. It cost us 150 Euros as a fine as well as the 15 Euro fee. There are no signs nor clue of this when entering the country. The tags are available at bus stations and post offices apparently. Zagreb is also a good experience and a fine historic city to visit. Driving in Croatia is good although the towns are challenging as is parking. All in all a wonderful experience. We would visit again and perhaps rent a sailboat ourselves. We would be interested in Portugal as a future destination. We travel frequently so welcome suggestions. We have booked October and December already (Mexico) Turkey, Italy and Greece are near term destinations for us as well."

"We had a fabulous time. The organisation went like clockwork. The airport pick up and drop off were excellent, the hotels were exactly as you had described. Amathus Travel were very helpful when our hire car was delayed (only stuck in traffic so no issue) and also they spoke to us a couple of days before to change our airport pick up time for our return home, as the traffic had been so bad recently in Kortor Bay, we were very pleased with their thoughtfulness. We loved Montenegro. What a stunning country! We all loved the Durmitor National Park the best. Amazing scenery and great hospitality. I would recommend the itinerary that you put together for us as a great balance of seeing the country and relaxing. It was all spot on and we much appreciate all your efforts including the driving and sightseeing advice, we made a very memorable detour to Lake Skadar on the first drive into the mountains. It has been a very special holiday. Your services made it stress free and fabulous, many thanks again, and we hope to holiday will you again in the future."

"A very, very belated thank you for doing such a grand job on our recent holiday to Croatia/Bosnia/Montenegro. We had a fab time, the hotels were all great, the locations were perfect, the food and wine amazing. Everything worked like clockwork and we really couldn't fault anything. We absolutely loved Croatia and Montenegro. Bosnia was interesting and a good contrast to see. We were extremely unlucky with the weather in Durmitor, but nonetheless made the most of it and did actually get to do some walking in and around the black lake and Durmitor National Park. Just to let you know, Hotel Soa in Zabljak was really good. The rooms we stayed in were fairly small, but more than adequate. The restaurant in the hotel is really good and it's an easy walk to the Black Lake from the hotel. You can also easily walk into town from the hotel. On reflection, we were glad we changed from the original suggestion as that hotel was a fair way out of town and quite isolated unless you have access to a vehicle and then of course if you have to drive in, this means one of you can't enjoy a beer or two! Thought you might like some feedback for an alternative hotel. So, overall we had a great holiday and would thoroughly recommend this trip to others. Thanks again for all your help and input in making this year's holiday one to remember. Cheers to all at Rediscover."

"Rediscover the world provided a superb service and everything worked perfectly. There was some discrepancy in what was a 4 star hotel and the Bristol in Mostar needed lots of TLC No hesitation in recommending Rediscover and Croatia"

"Fantastic holiday, booked at short notice. All plans worked well. Local people exceptionally helpful. Thank you for your help. For feedback - Hotel Kula Damjanova was a little disappointing as they had a big function on in the evening with extremely loud music and we had to eat outside which was cold and rainy and the food & service was rather disappointing. We could hear the guests in the next bedroom very clearly and the water supply was sporadic. However we are easy going so it was not a particular issue for us (wheres it could have been for some) and we enjoyed an interesting place with a lovely position on the lake."
