Croatia

Fly-drive tailor-made holidays

Croatia's 1100 miles of coastline is stunning in itself but the myriad of islands and islets along its length (over 1000) add to its beauty as well as offering extra places to stay or visit as part of a holiday to Croatia. The outstanding scenery of the Dalmatian Coast is not the only jewel in the crown, there is a mountainous interior to explore including the Plitvice National Park (one of our favourite places, full of waterfalls and lakes), the Venetian towns, the cosmopolitan and vibrant capital, Zagreb, and numerous excursions by boat or across the border into Bosnia and Montenegro.

Croatia's magical scenery and legendary hospitality are unquestionably real, as you'll confirm when you have explored the country, still waiting to be rediscovered. We offer our knowledge and experience of Croatia and its neighbours to assist your holiday planning and together we can arrange your perfect itinerary. Here are links to some of the wonderful places showing Croatia's variety and below that is another link to a page on which we have outlined three "classic" fly-drive holiday itineraries as examples of what can be arranged.

Flights are possible into Croatia from all over the UK, although many are charter flights and offer only fixed departures, i.e. for 7 or 14 nights. If you want more flexibility on duration as well as open-jaw itineraries then we can arrange flights with BA, Croatian Airways, Easy Jet, Thomson Fly and Ryan Air to suit most requirements.

Some of the most requested places to stay on fly-drive holidays are - Zagreb, Plitvice National Park, Zadar, Split (and its nearby resort of Trogir), Dubrovnik and the islands of Brac, Hvar and Korcula as well as the Istrian Peninsular. We can arrange for any combination of these locations (and many others) in hotels to suit your budget and taste. Hotels in Croatia range from approximately £ 25 per person per night up to over £ 100 pppn and car hire is available from as little as £ 32 per day fully-inclusive of all taxes and charges. We will also advise on driving times, places of interest along your route and, quite importantly, up-to-date ferry timetables.

ALL FLY-DRIVE HOLIDAYS INCLUDE A FREE LAMINATED MAP OF CROATIA & ONE OF OUR REDISCOVER THE WORLD GUIDE BOOKS.

Private English-Speaking Driver Service:

If you would prefer not to drive or wish to enjoy the scenery as you pass through this fantastic country then we can offer you a private driver at the rate of £45 per day (this charge does not include food and lodgings; we would pre-book your driver on the same itinerary and board basis as you and include this cost in your quote). The driver will be English-speaking and will be able to assist with any local sightseeing, e.g. arranging a local, official guide for historic monuments, etc. (Entrance fees to National Monuments and local guide charges apply in some places). You would need to bear in mind the size of your party (with luggage) plus the driver when choosing a suitable rental vehicle and, of course, you would be responsible for payment of fuel as usual.

Essential Information

Time - Croatia is 1hr ahead of the UK.

Visa - not required for EU citizens; passport with at least 6 months validity required.

Security - a low crime country; police require passports to be carried at all times.

Religion - 88% Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox and Muslim make up the remainder - primarily from those settled in the past from other parts of the former Yugoslavia.

Opening Hours - most shops, offices, banks, etc. are open long hours during the week (8am to 8pm) and saturday morning; Sunday is still a quiet day here, although in coastal resorts this is less strictly adhered to.

Money - The Croatian Kuna (HRK) is divided into 100 Lipa. Credit Cards are increasingly accepted, many ATMS available. The Euro is the best 'hard' currency to take with you.
