Whether travelling by boat or car the journey through the Southern Dalmatian Coast is spectacular. The islands of Southern Dalmatia offer beautiful scenery and a variety of historical sights with mediaeval walled towns perched on the edge of the Adriatic. Hvar is often described as the lovliest Dalamtian island is also the sunniest spot in Croatia. Korcula with its Venetian citadel jutting into the sea, and the picturesque island of Brac are also popular destinations.
Our recommended islands:

Hvar is often referred to as the lovliest Dalmatian island and perhaps because it is the sunniest place in Croatia may have something to do with this. To add to Hvar's beauty there is an abundance of wild flowers such as lavender, rosemary and heather whose perfume adds something special to the island's atmosphere. Hvar Town is a small, charming harbour town set against a backdrop of steep hills with plenty of interesting Mediaeval buildings. Important sights in the town include the Renaissance Cathedral of St Stephen's, the Gothic Arsenal and the Venetian fortress at the top of the hill within whose walls the islanders fled for sanctuary during the invasion of the Turks in 1571. The view from the fortress offers a truly magical Mediterranean sunset. |

| Brac | ||

Brac is one of the largest of the islands in the central chain but tends to be quieter than its more popular neighbour, Hvar. It is covered with olive groves and vineyards and thick pine trees; its famous white stone has been used in the construction of the Whitehouse, Diocletian's Palace and Liverpool Cathedral. Many places to stay are in and around Bol with its famour Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn) beach. The two main resorts on the island are Bol, a windsurfers' paradise, and Supetar which is a more established resort with a fine old town and plenty of facilities for the visitor. |

The beginnings of the walled stone city date from the early 13th century and are described in the Statute of the town and island of Korčula dating from 1214 - this is one of the oldest European town statutes. More recently, there is a strong claim that Marco Polo was born and grew up on the island. The old city has such a special atmosphere and is a tight cluster of narrow streets, designed in an ingenious herring-bone pattern to ease the cooling sea breezes through the town. There is much to see in this wonderful little place that would keep even the most hardened sun worshippers interested for a couple of days - cathedral, museum, town walls, Marco Polo's birthplace. |

| Miljet Island boasts a superb National Park which covers almost half of its area. The major features, apart from its overall natural beauty are two salt water lakes of which the larger is home to a 12th Century Benedictine Monastery and church (the warmer waters in these lakes make them ideal for bathing even outside of the main season). A peaceful holiday location, ideally suited to those who love nature and a quiet evening enjoying the local cuisine. | ||

| The aim of this activity holiday is to allow you to explore the stunning Island of Vis by sea kayak, mountain bike and on foot. The holiday is not just about activities, though, it is also about great food, good local wine and relaxing in the fabulous renovated old stone house in the village of Rukavac. | ||
