Stavros is a seaside village around 15km from Chania and located on Cape Akrotiri.
There are two large beaches at Stavros on either side of a narrow headland. These beaches have been responsible for Stavros becoming a popular tourist destination.
One characteristic feature of the area is the steep mountain opposite the harbour. The mountain is famous, because there were filmed scenes for the film “Zorba the Greek” (1964), where Anthony Quinn danced the famous Sirtaki Dance.
Stavros village has restaurants, shops, tavernas and bars.
Inland Akrotiri is great for nature lovers with plenty of hiking trails, some old monasteries and several ancient ruins.
