Lefkas - Day Trips
FORGOTTEN VILLAGES
You'll head inland to explore at least four villages where it will seem to you that time really has stood still, and pass through many more. You'll see the Greeks as they really are, warm friendly people, who'll have time for you. The first stop is the very old village of KAVALOS, with time to explore and have a morning coffee, then on to PLATISTOMA where you can look down at NIDRI. On upwards to the lace making village of KARIA, where a stop at the museum will take you on to lunch in the magnificent square. Continuing up towards one of the highest points on the island and a stop with a 15 min. walk where you can photo the most breath taking views. Making your way down to sea level, passing through villages with names like EGLOUVI, famous for its lentils. ASPROGERIKARTA & SPANOHORI before a stop for an ice cream, cool drink or afternoon tea in LAZARATA which finishes off your day.
IONIAN DREAM
Our vessel for today will take you back in time, it is an impressive wooden craft named PANAYOTA. There is room for everybody to lay out and sun-bathe. We leave the harbour at NIDRI and head out to sea, enjoying the breeze and the sights of the numerous Islands we pass. Sit back and relax as the captain and his crew take you to the totally unspoilt island of KALAMOS. While you are enjoying a relaxing swim from the boat, this competent crew will be preparing your lunch (vegetarians catered for) or you can take your own picnic. After this long leisurely lunch stop the sails are put up (weather permitting) & you'll sail away to where ever the wind takes you to find another beach to relax on or take a cooling dip.

GREEK NIGHT AT MEGANISSI
Combine a spot of island hopping with a traditional Greek village and you have a recipe for a fantastic evening. Experience the Greek culture, colourful costumes and authentic Greek cuisine washed down with local wine.
Our comfortable air-conditioned coach will take you to and from the capital. An opportunity to do some late night shopping at a time when the town is bustling and exciting. Explore the labyrinth of tiny cobblestone back streets that hold some unusual surprises in the way of funny little shops that all the locals use and are open all year through. The town has some of the best restaurants and tavernas on the island and after all the shopping and exploring you can sit back in one of the many bars in the main square, enjoy a night cap, as you soak up the atmosphere.
Join our evening cruise to see stars as you have never seen them before, and hear stories about them as told by the Ancient Greeks. Youll cruise to a quiet beach where you can enjoy a warm swim in the evening light, or relax before we provide you with a full meal. As darkness falls, well guide you around the sky, pointing out the many constellations including your star signs . We will tell you some of the stories that the Ancient Greeks told many years ago. This is an evening about story telling and relaxing with good food and company. You will also receive a complimentary star chart, which you can use for the remainder of your stay.
The Ionian Islands, unspoilt since ancient times, sparkle like jewels in an azure sea. The islands and the clear waters that surround them are unpolluted and a haven for natural life. Dolphins, seals, marine turtles and a lot more inhabit this area of the world . The marine adventure will introduce you to the natural history of the region and the Mediterranean in general .You will be taken to a variety of swimming and snorkelling locations, including beaches, shallow reefs, caves with bats and the mysterious black hole! The atmosphere on board the boat will be warm and friendly and you will be totally looked after. You will move on to the wonderful bat cave where the rare long fingered bats live. Here the waters are made luminous from the sunlight reflected through the cave entrance. This is one of the best snorkelling locations with many things to see including sponges and brightly coloured starfish. Outside the cave the underwater terrain is spectacular with steep cliffs and canyons to swim over and through. If this sounds a bit much for you , dont worry, there is a glass bottomed raft (THE MEGA MASK) ideal for those who dont want to swim in waters out of their depth. At the lunch stop a delicious cold spread washed down with wine or soft drink will be available.
You'll cruise to the south end of MEGANISI (Mega=Big Nisi=Island) and visit the cave of PAPANIKOLAS, with it's turquoise blue waters and where, during World War II, a Greek submarine was hidden from the enemy and it's here you can take your first swim of the day. After returning up towards the north end of this Island, your next stop will be PORTA SPILLIA with the very typical old Greek village of SPARTAHORI (Hori=village) above this beautiful bay, on the way up you will come to the balcony where you will be able to take photos or just sit and admire this breath taking-view. Then continue on up to explore the village. Down below there is a choice of restaurants before going for your 2nd swim, and you will still have time to get in some sunbathing. Just a short distance away is the world famous Island of SKORPIOS the home of the late Aristotle Onasis once the richest man in the world. Our guide knows all there is to know about this Island and all the people who have ever been there (even the juicy bits), after your tour around you'll be able to indulge yourself in a relaxing swim in the bay below the main house. The very last stop will be a look at the Island of MADOURI, before returning to the harbour of NIDRI.
On this trip we take you all the way round the Island in air-conditioned coaches, with a knowledgeable English guide who will tell you all the secrets and history of LEFKAS.
Free time in the capital to explore and stroll along the tiny cobbled alleyways, or just to do some shopping. See and learn about the ancient fort of SANTA MAVRA, then sweep around the lagoon for the famous Windmill Beach which finishes the east coast of the Island. On the north coast you'll stop at the famous FANEROMENI MONASTERY where there is a painting said to have great healing powers and pilgrims come from all over Greece to visit this most beautiful monastery. A stop for photos. of the long beach before AGIOS NIKITAS gives you your first taste of the west coast and on to the light lunch (included) and swim stop at KATHISMA one of the best beaches on the Island. Complete change of scenery takes you up in the mountains with a photo stop, keeping the west coast in view your next stop will be VASILIKI the famous wind surfing beach with time for ice cream, cooling drink or just a stroll around. Heading back towards the east coast, passing SIVOTA and POROS on the way and finishing the day back in NIDRI, or your accommodation.
