Magic of Lapland Short Break (Lapp Village) - 3 days - 2010

 

Day One

On arrival in Kittila with your representative you will transfer to Akaslompolo (approx 50 minutes) stopping en route to collect your thermal clothing and boots. Upon arrival at the Lapp Village Cabins you check-in and enjoy lunch in Poro restaurant (250 - 300m away from the cabins). Transfer to a husky dog farm for a husky dog safari (5km). Here you will learn about the lives of husky dogs and have an opportunity to drive your own team of huskies deep into the forest. Coffee and warm juice with ginger bread cookies will be served after the activity. Dinner will be taken at the Poro restaurant.

Day Two

Breakfast and depart from your cabin for the short walk to Lapp Village for a full day of activities with an Arctic circle ceremony, snow fun activities - tandem skiing, snowshoe walking, kick sledging, tobogganing and children's snowmobiling. Make gingerbread cookies and Christmas decorations. Depart by snowmobile and reindeer to search for Santa's cabin. INDIVIDUAL family visit to Santa. Lunch is served throughout the day. Meet for welcome drinks followed by a festive dinner at the Poro restaurant.

 

Day Three

A free morning after breakfast - perhaps you would like to go on an optional excursion such as guided cross country skiing or ice fishing (see below for suggestions). Check out of your cabin and enjoy lunch at the Poro Restaurant. After lunch depart for a 25km snowmobile safari through unspoilt Lappish wilderness with a stop in the forest for warm drinks and a sausage BBQ. As there are two adults per snowmobile you can swap drivers after the stop, children are pulled behind in sleighs. After returning the thermal clothing you transfer to the airport for the flight home.

 

Optional Excursions available:

Husky Farm Visit and Sleigh Safari - visit to a farm with Alaskan and Siberian huskies. Take a 9km ride, learn to steer the sleigh. Hear about the life of husky dogs.

Snow Shoe Trip - walk through the forest in snow shoes as the ancient Finns did on wooden skis. Walk through snowy forest for 3 km. Stop for hot drinks on an open fire.

Duration: 2.5 hour Price: Adult/Child: £50.

Ice Fishing - Having drilled a hole in the ice sit back with a hot drink and wait to see who brings in the best catch!

Cross Country Skiing School for Families - Learn basic cross country skiing techniques and head out on a short trip on maintained ski tracks

ACCOMMODATION

LAPP VILLAGE CABINS, AKASLOMPOLO

Exclusive to Magic of Lapland!

Lapp Village cabins are located in Akaslompolo, North East Lapland, just 200m from the Lapp Village- a small, uncommercialised and family run village with the Aurora restaurant, Poro, (in English – Reindeer) as its central feature and a small, very Lappish and stylish Santa's House handicraft shop. Lapp Village cabins with the four self-contained apartments (Malla, Mella, Salla and Saana) are built in traditional Lappish style out of centuries old logs. Each cabin apartment is 65 sq. m and consists of kitchen/living room with a fire place and sauna, shower, WC and the double bedroom on the ground floor and the sofa and twin beds on the upper floor.

Just a few metes away is a lodge with the traditional Finnish smoked sauna and the fire place lodge Takkaporo where the meals are prepared by chef in front of the guests in a traditional Lappish way on an open fire. This is ideal for parties of up to eight who wish to have their festive dinner in privacy or indeed a special dinner on the evening of arrival. LappDinner must be pre-booked and attracts a supplement of £ 40 for an adult and £ 30 for a child.

All cabins have: sauna, fire place, firewood in a separate wood storage area, shower, WC, hair dryer, clothes dryer, digital TV and DVD player on the ground floor, TV on the mezzanine, fridge, coffee maker and can accommodate up to 6 people with children over the age of 7.

Breakfast is served in cabins. Welcome pack with coffee, tea and milk is provided.

Due to privacy and the size of location there is no reception, however cabins and guests are looked after by a LappVillage host which adds to authenticity.
