Riads in Marrakech

Luxury Guest Houses - RIADS Growing in popularity, and number, riads are a selection of refurbished houses of various sizes and quality in the centre of Marrakech's mediaeval medina. These fabulous properties are designed to be cool in the Moroccan heat and inward looking so surround a private courtyard or garden which is most often open to the Marrakech sky and are known as riads (or Dars) - scroll down for our personal choice of properties. At least one of us here at Rediscover has visited each Riad recently so please feel free to discuss your requirements and budget and we will be happy to make recomendations - naturally such properties are likely to be a matter of personal taste and preference but we are confident that there is a riad to suit all tastes. Marrakech Nestled on a large plain at the foot of the snow-capped High Atlas Mountains, Marrakech is a perfect city to visit for a short break or to make an ideal base for exploring southern Morocco. Surrounded by its original fortified city wall Marrakesh entices you into its midst; allow it to absorb into your soul and we are sure that, like us, it will become one of your favourite places. Marrakech has many faces, the historic and labyrinthine Medina of the Almohads (Moors), the majesty of the Bahia Palace, the tranquility of its many famous gardens and the sophistication of its more modern boulevards and cafes. |
||
Any tour of Marrakech should begin by exploring the Medina followed by a visit to the Djemma el Fna (main square) in the shadow of the renovated Koutoubia Mosque. Enter further into the labyrinthine souk for some serious bargaining and you will be immersed in the sights, sounds and aromas of this mediaeval market place. In the evening the Djemma el Fna transforms into a lively al fresco dining experience with such local delicacies as spicy sausages, fresh fish with chips, traditional Harira soup, (sheep's heads are perhaps only for the very hearty traveller though) and washed down with plenty of sweet mint tea of course. All the time you will be surrounded by acrobats, snake charmers, fortune tellers and entertainers of all kinds. |

An excellent restoration of a traditional riad in the heart of Marrakech's Medina. The owners have transformed this 1920s residence into a wonderful guest house. |
Daniel, the owner of the Ryad el Borj, is extremely proud of his home – not a riad in the traditional sense of the word this is more like a house with a tower (Borj meaning tower in Arabic) which leads to some interesting discoveries.
|
The Riad Magellan is owned and run by a welcoming couple from France – Philippe and Stephanie who live at the riad and make their guests feel totally at home; nothing is too much trouble for them.
