Skiathos - Excursion Ideas

Mule ride

A visit to the monastery of Evangelistria by traditional means of transport, namely mules! An unusual morning out, riding past the outskirts of town and then uphill through olive and pine groves. On arrival you will admire the old ruins and the church with its fine wood carved altar. Next to the spring and under huge trees, you can relax whilst being served light refreshments. Return to town around 13:00.

One mule can carry one adult, or two children up to six years old.

Round the island cruise

This is an opportunity to sail around the island and see the beauty of Skiathos from the sea. Departing from the port at 09:00, your first stop is at the famous Lalaria beach for swimming and relaxing while listening to the sound of the waves thrashing on the pebbles. The next stop is Kastro, where you may visit the ruins of the medieval town. At Aselinos you have plenty of time for lunch, beach games and more swimming. The boat sails past other famous beaches and secluded coves, with a last stop at the isle of Tsougria. Return to port around 16:30.

Our agent runs this excursion in the Sporades Express, the biggest vessel on the island that can reach the beaches. While most other excursion vessels are converted fishing boats, this one actually served on the ferry line to Volos until the seventies. Its dual Rolls-Royce engines and its experienced local crew ensure safety. While it carries a licence for 180 passengers, there are never more than 150 on board, for better comfort of the holiday makers.

Skopelos and Alonnisos cruise

This is the perfect way to visit the two nearby islands of Skopelos and Alonnisos. The boat first cruises along the deserted beached and coves of south Skopelos. The first port of call is Patitiri, the port of Alonnisos. You may visit the old village, built traditionally on the highest point of the island.

The next stop is at the town of Skopelos, magnificently built on the hillside. There is plenty of time to walk around the town, visit the renowned ceramic shops and climb to the hilltop. On the return trip the boat passes from the rocky north coast of Skopelos which contrasts strongly with the sandy beaches of Skiathos. Return to port around 18:30.

Sunset cruise

As the sun sets on the horizon, hop aboard and join the sunset cruise. You will enjoy the evening cruising along the southern coast of Skiathos, whilst watching the sun set behind the Pelion mountain. We drop anchor at Aselinos beach, where you will be served a salad buffet and grilled hamburgers accompanied by unlimited wine. On the return,, while watching the moon and the stars, coffee will be served. Return to port around 23:00.

Tour of Athens

Transfer by hydrofoil to Aghios Konstantinos and from there to Athens by air conditioned coach. We will drive you through the modern city and see the Constitution Square, the Houses of Parliament, the Unknown Soldier Memorial, the Academy, the National Library, the Presidential Mansion, the Stadium, the Temple of Olympian Zeus and Hadrian's Arch. Then on to the Akropolis, where you will visit the architectural masterpieces of the Golden Era of Greece, such as the Parthenon and the Erechtion, and the museum. You will walk through Plaka, the old part of the city, bustling with many shops. There is some free time, if you are interested in visiting other sites or go shopping. Return to Skiathos around 21:00.

Tour of Delphi

Transfer by hydrofoil to Aghios Konstantinos and from there by air conditioned coach to Delphi, via Thermopylae and Amfissa. Delphi is the renowned centre of the ancient world, whose prestige extended far beyond the boundaries of the Hellenic world; the home of the oracle, whose advice in both political and personal matters was sought. With five hours scheduled stay, there is ample time for visiting the museum and the archaeological site, featuring the temple of Apollo, the sanctuary, the theatre and the stadium. Return to Skiathos around 21:00.

Tour of Meteora

Transfer by hydrofoil to Volos and from there by air conditioned coach to Meteora, where people dedicate their lives to worshipping God. The monasteries are located amidst striking scenery, perched on top of huge rocks, rising towards the sky, each standing unique and alone in space. They are full of exquisite specimens of Byzantine art. There is some time to be spend in the nearby town of Kalambaka. Return to Skiathos around 21:00.

Please, note that visiting the monasteries requires men to wear trousers, not shorts; women should wear skirts covering the knees, not trousers, and shoulders must be covered.
