About Croatia Self Drive 04 - Zagreb Circuit
Touring the historic interior of Croatia, including visits to coast, islands & national parks.
Activity code: CRFD04
Duration: 8 Days
START / FINISH - Zagreb
A self-drive circuit of central Croatia which starts and finishes in Zagreb. In one week you can explore the capital, the coastline from Split right up to the Istrian Peninsula and visit the fabulous Plitvice National Park; this journey includes a huge variety of stunning scenery and cultural experiences.
The holiday begins with a smooth transfer service to your hotel in Zagreb where you have the remainder of the day to visit the city on foot and using its excellent public transport. Your hire car will be delivered to you and you can head straight out into the countryside in the direction of your first major stop, the stunning Plitvice Lakes National Park. Each day's drive is not so far so you have plenty of time to do some sightseeing, walking or take an extended lunch / picnic along the way.
For the second part of the itinerary we recommend driving on the scenic roads directly to Split and take the ferry to Hvar Island, staying in Hvar Town for a night and then traversing the island to get the ferry over to the mainland. Once back on the mainland you can perhaps take up the offer to do some rafting or the mulit-zip-wire experience in the Cetina Valley near Omis or simply travel back up the stunning coast road to Split (or Trogir).
Time to relax before the final leg of your journey and we suggest you take to the highway and drive north to stay in Zadar; the lovely old town also has some innovative new sights up its sleeve. Perhaps you may wish to carry on further up the coast to Opatija (or Rijeka) for an extra night or two. It is then a relatively short drive back to Zagreb Airport for your flight home.
Accommodation: the hotels in this itinerary are generally small, independent or family-run, properties which add significantly to your travel experience in these fascinating countries (in the list below we have included our main recommendations together with suggestions for "boutique" hotels and deluxe options, please do not hesitate to request alternative hotels).
Transport: To take the stress out of arriving and departing we offer a private airport (or port) transfer service, we can then deliver and collect your hire car from your hotel. All our vehicles have a/c and we provide driving directions and parking information for all accommodation. The new highways linking Zagreb, Split, Pula and Dubrovnik will cut down journey times when you wish to get from A to B quickly but this also means that the other roads will be quieter and a pleasant alternative for sightseeing and travelling at a gentler pace. (NB. tolls apply on the highways).
Extra Information: all our holidays have a recommended route with suggestions for sightseeing and we include the most up-to-date ferry schedules and tariffs; we are also able to book activities and specialist sightseeing in a number of locations - such as cycling, sea kayaking, wine-tasting, etc.
NB: Flights available with a range of airlines, from various UK airports. All holidays which include flights booked through us include ATOL cover.
