Croatia Island Hopping Holiday (North)

Zadar to Pula (or Rijeka) via two Adriatic Islands (Public Ferry version)

About Croatia Island Hopping Holiday (North)

Croatia's Dalmatian Coast mixes a sunny climate with historic cities and one of the most breathtaking stretches of scenic shoreline in the whole Mediterranean.

Activity code: CRIH01

Duration: 10 Days

START - Zadar / FINISH - Pula (or Rijeka) - or vice versa.

This Island Hopping itinerary is a new option in the northwest of Croatia utilising the new, excellent ferry connections to visit some of the lesser-visited and most beautiful islands in the whole Mediterranean, nicely book-ended with stays in Pula and Zadar (or Rijeka/Opatija). Our suggested islands are Cres & Mali Losinj; however, you could also choose to include Pag, Krk, Rab or Dugi Otok.

If you don't fancy driving and wish to avoid the roads altogether on your holiday then we have the perfect solution; this Adriatic Island Hopping Holiday includes time-tabled catamarans and ferries between all the islands. Many of the hotels are within easy walking distance of the ports and harbours but we will include private transfers for the slightly longer ones (and to/from the airports, of course).

Spend a few days in Zadar exploring the old town, taking a boat trip or admiring the views from the park overlooking the old harbour, then you have a choice of islands to enjoy, whether that is more historical sightseeing, sea-based activities, walking, traditional food (or fine dining) or taking in some spa treatments; we will advise which island(s) work best for you. Of course you could then return to Zadar if your flight schedule dictates but if possible we would recommend travelling on to Pula where you can stay in the old city surrounded by remnants of Diocletian's Palace. From Pula you can easily visit nearby Rovinj or take in a concert at the Roman Amphitheatre.

Highlights of this Island Hopping Holiday:

  • Zadar - one of our favourite places in Croatia; it is also a great base to visit the National Parks of Paklenica and Krka, the beautiful village of Nin, Pag island via its bridge and the Kornati Islands. Zadar is a town steeped in history, it was at one time the capital of Byzantine Dalmatia. Zadar is surrounded on three sides by water, nevertheless, the town's natural defences were enhanced by the Venetians who built the massive sixteenth century walls to keep out the Turkish invaders. Zadar is renowned for its many fine churches including the impressive St Donat's church which is the largest pre-Romanesque building in Croatia.
  • Mali Losinj - The largest town in the Cres/Losinj island group bears the hallmarks of Venetian rule but also has a bustling 19th century seafront.
  • Cres - Until quite recently the island was mostly used for sheep grazing but a stunning, sometimes barren landscape has attracted tourists; Martinscica is a small resort and Cres Town is a pretty little place with fishermen's cottages set around a sheltered harbour.
  • Rijeka - Historic 18th & 19th century buildings dominate the centre of this port town, don't miss the mediaeval hilltop citadel.
  • Pula - located on the southern tip of the Istrian Peninsula and has been settled for at least 3000 years. Its Roman amphitheatre is the biggest outside of Italy, in fact it is still a great venue for concerts featuring international artists. Other sights in Pula include the Arch of Segius, the Forum, the Twin Gates and the Temple of Augustus.

Why book with Rediscover the World ?

We are able to tailor-make a holiday to suit your requirements for any or all of the following - departure airport, budget, hotel type/size, duration, activities, etc.

Accommodation: the hotels in this itinerary are our personal choice in each category, all of which offer quality accommodation. You may prefer a small and friendly hotel or one of the boutique properties which are also small but tend to be a more luxurious and occasionally quirky option or a deluxe 5* hotel with lots of facilities to enjoy during your stay. Please do not hesitate to request alternative hotels).

Transport: we will provide up-to-date timetables and advice on which ferries work best and what routes are available for your choice of itinerary. We can pre-book tickets on the high speed catamaran services to guarantee places, these services are excellent and we will book transfers to/from the ports and your hotels to match up with them. However, it is not possible to pre-book car-ferry tickets on most lines but as a foot passenger the costs are minimal and there will not be any problems with availability, even during high season.

Extra Information: We are happy to book activities and additional sightseeing, particularly in Dubrovnik - such as cycling, sea kayaking, wine-tasting, etc.
