About Stavros

Stavros is a seaside village, around 15 km from Chania, with two large beaches on either side of the narrow headland. The village has restaurants, shops, tavernas and bars.

A characteristic feature of the area is the steep mountain opposite the harbour. This mountain is famous; this was the location for the scenes in the film “Zorba the Greek” (1964), where Anthony Quinn danced the famous Sirtaki.

Inland, Akrotiri is great for nature lovers with plenty of hiking trails, some old monasteries and several ancient ruins.
