About Atlas Kasbah Ecolodge

The multi award-winning Atlas Kasbah Ecolodge in Morocco is the first eco-friendly accommodation in the Argan Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage location. It is located in the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains yet only 20 minutes from the beautiful beaches of Agadir.

Opened in 2009, the Atlas Kasbah Ecolodge was granted both the prestigious Responsible Tourism Award from the Ministry of Tourism of Morocco and the international Green Key Ecolabel from King Mohamed VI Foundation for the Environment. In 2011, it was recognized as one of six projects in the world by the International Network of Responsible Tourism & was awarded the ALM Ecology Trophy the same year. It was the 2015 Gold Winner of the World Responsible Tourism Awards.

The founder of this ecolodge, Dr. Hassan Aboutayeb, works as a consultant in sustainable tourism development and in the creation of environmentally friendly businesses. He has spent his life promoting responsible tourism in Agadir and in the Argan Biosphere Reserve.

As part of the approach to promoting the local community, the Atlas Kasbah Ecolodge provides employment for people in the Agadir Souss Massa region. This includes employing women with no formal schooling, providing new opportunities for them and their families. The Kasbah community is completed by some pets: goats, peacocks, chickens, turkeys and cats but don't worry if you're allergic, they don't come into the ecolodge.

The Atlas Kasbah integrates sustainability, innovation, respect for the environment and the appreciation for local Berber cultures. There is also an emphasis on water & energy conservation, waste management, integration with the landscape with the use of traditional architecture and building materials and environmental education.
