The Riad Kalaa is a Kasbah from the Almoravide dynasty built by the Emir Ben Tachfine on the banks of the Bouregreg river. It was constructed in 1140 AD for protection against enemy forces. A recent archeological dig near the Oudayas excavated sections of the original Kasbah. Constructed in 1815, in the heart of the medina ramparts, only a few steps from the ocean, the Riad Kalaa has undergone a thorough and lengthy restoration, using artisan workmanship traditional to Morocco.
Riad Kalaa is very close to the famous Kasbah des Oudayas, ancient den of the Sale pirates and the prison where Robinson Crusoe was detained for some time. The narrow streets painted in blue whitewash will lead you to the Café Maure where you can sip a mint tea while you gaze at the Bouregreg river estuary, the traditional fishing boats and the new marina.

The riad is unusually large with 11 rooms and suites, all en suite with central heating, wifi and a safe-deposit box. Some of the rooms have an open fire. The architecture of the riad is quite unique, with nooks and crannies, terraces, alcoves and salons, ensuring an intimate, harmonious and restful ambiance for all.
An oriental restaurant offering rich flavours of Moroccan cuisine awaits you on the ground floor, overlooking a large and leafy Andalusian patio. Among the salons also bordering the patio is a TV room and a comfortable salon with bar and open fire where you can have a drink in peaceful surroundings. On the first floor you will find a reading room and a skylight dome filling the room with amethyst glints – a perfect place to relax. Upstairs, you will find a large tree-lined terrace on several levels with a solarium and an emerald swimming pool, heated or cool depending on the season. It’s the ideal place for breakfast or grills at the barbecue where you can enjoy the splendid view over the roofs of the old town.
Spa - After a busy day, a few hours on a golf course or a long day of work, you can relax and enjoy the hammam with tadelakt arches and amber highlights.
Gastronomic Restaurant - here you will relish the cuisine of a specialist chef in preparing authentic Moroccan tajines; if you so wish he will reveal his secrets while showing you how to prepare traditional dishes: Couscous Royale, tajine of artichokes and peas or fish prepared in the Moroccan way… at the end of your stay he will offer those who are interested and passionate about food, a real treasure: his collection of recipes, among which are some so ancient that they are prepared nowhere else in Morocco today. In the Riad you can also sample all kinds of seafood. The chef goes to the fish market every day and invites you to a real feast for your taste buds.
Finally, Aicha, the Moroccan patisserie maker and an incomparable baker, will pamper you at breakfast, at the end of your meals and even make cakes to accompany your mint tea. All meals are to order, half day before, or at the time of booking.
Riad staff can also arrange transfers to the golf course, airport or train station and public parking is possible at a location nearby (small charge).
